The HCVA hosted its fifth Heritage Matters insight day for Trade and Fellowship members on 14th October. Over 100 leaders from across the historic and classic car industry converged on Jaguar Land Rover Classic for a day of discussion and presentations around a theme of ‘Attracting the next generation’.

An inspirational panel of young entrants captivated the audience with their insights into working in the Classic Vehicle sector. The audience was enlightened by hearing about what drew them to the sector, the highs and lows of their experience to date, and thoughts on making the industry more attractive to the next generation and creating a positive future.

A veteran and vintage panel focussed on making these earliest vehicles more accessible to all ages, the extensive support network that exists to keep them on the road, and the fun that can be had with these vehicles. Guy Loveridge from the National Motor Museum gave an update on the museums project to take the Sunbeam 1000 HP back to Daytona and how this is being used to engage with the younger generation at the museum.

An update on the auction market provided a fascinating insight into the changing demographics around purchasers and what they expect from the buying process. Some fascinating data and insight into rapidly changing demand and desirability of newer classics is an important trend to follow.

We were delighted to welcome back a senior team from the DVLA who provided delegates with an update on the recent policy changes, outlined the next steps for reconstructed classics and kit vehicles, and were on hand to answer members queries.  It was rewarding for the HCVA team to hear directly from the DVLA the value that the organisation and its members had contributed to the review process and the DVLA’s desire to continue to work closely together.

The day was rounded off with a tour of Jaguar Land Rover Classic facility and their collection which was enjoyed by all.

Attending Heritage Matters is a fantastic opportunity for the industry to get together and identify the solutions that protect the future of our industry. You too can become part of the discussion by joining the HCVA today.

HCVA Trade members can view and download the presentations from the day in the members area of the web site.
