The HCVA are helping put together teams of young competitors for the 2024 HERO-ERA Rally for the Ages

This is a great opportunity for young HCVA members to take part in a fantastic historic motorsport event with no experience needed!

A core feature of the HERO-ERA Rally for the Ages is that if the driver and navigator have a combined age of below 70 years old then entry to the event is completely free. Designed to encourage family teams and to get younger people to have a taste of historic motorsport, this is a chance to discover how much fun 'regularity' rallies can be.

'Regularity' rallying is about more than pace - each stage has a target average speed so how early or late you arrive at a checkpoint has an impact on your points. This means that navigation and teamwork is just as, if not more, important than driving skills. It's also a lot of fun!

Starting and finishing at HCVA Founding Partner Bicester Heritage, the rally consists of a 100-mile open road route around the glorious Oxfordshire countryside as well as four technical tests at Bicester.

Taking place on 7th September 2024, the event is run by HERO-ERA, an HCVA Founding Partner and globally-renowned organisers of historic motoring events. HERO-ERA are particularly known for competitive rallying events across the world including the famous Peking to Paris motor challenge.

We're looking for keen young competitors to be both drivers and navigators. We can help to match drivers with navigators where necessary and also help to source cars to compete in the event.

HERO-ERA are kindly offering a free years worth of club membership to allow new members to compete completely free of charge. If you are already a HERO-ERA club member you will receive next years membership for free upon completing the event.

What do you need to enter?

RS Clubman Licence - Anybody over the age of 13 can obtain this for free by following the instructions here

A UK driving license (for drivers). Navigators can compete from 13 years old.

2023 was the inaugural Rally for the Ages and was a tremendous success - fielding 90 historic cars with 180 keen competitors.

The event is free to enter and focuses on introducing young people to regularity rallying and historic motorsport in an accessible way. Impressively 55% of entrants were new to rallying so they have certainly achieved this goal.

HERO-ERA were worthy winners of the Innovation category at the 2023 RAC Historic Motoring Awards

Rally for the Ages is all about looking towards the future too - 70 of the 90 competing cars last year ran on Sustain Classic Biofuel in order to minimise emissions during the event. It is hugely satisfying to see young people enjoying historic motorsport in an accessible and sustainable way as this chimes exactly with what the HCVA is all about.
